Acts 15-17

"Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."  Acts 17:11, NIV

This passage should give every single person great caution when it comes to accepting the teachings of preachers, pastors, priests, or even mamas.

Think for a moment about the great truth revealed in this passage. Paul is an Apostle of Jesus Christ. He has performed many miracles. He has a huge following of those who truly believe that he is from God. So the good people at Berea listen to his message with great eagerness.

But, then, they did something that might surprise us. Rather than just taking his word for it, they examined the Scriptures every day to make sure that what he said was true.

Now, if these noble men and women compared what Paul (an inspired Apostle of Jesus Christ, no less) said to what the Scriptures command, then what does that say for us today when we are listening to mere men?

I think that it says that we, too, need to read the Bible every day to make sure of what we are hearing and believing. After all, it's our eternal soul that is at stake!

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."  II Timothy 2:15, NIV

If you have been studying every day, then you are developing the noble character that the Bereans had, for you are now examining the Scriptures every day to make sure that what you have heard is true. May God continue to bless your efforts to seek and do His will!
