2 Peter

"May peace and grace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord."  II Peter 1:1, RSV

Did you catch that? Your knowledge of God and Jesus will multiply your levels of peace and grace!

The whole world wants peace. I think that's why so many people want to be rich. It's because they think they will never have to worry, if only they have enough money to take care of themselves. Of course this is foolish, because most people with lots of money seem to have lots a problems associated with being able to have whatever they want whenever they want it.

Maybe instead of working so hard to get rich, or dreaming of what we will buy if only we can win the lottery, we should be studying the word of God. It's this increase of knowledge (when done in the right way for the right reasons) that will bring about the peace that everyone wants. The Bible calls this condition a "peace that passes all understanding".

And we are promised that this peace will be multiplied to us in our knowledge of God and Christ!

Even more impressive than that is the fact that grace will be multiplied to us in that same knowledge. I like grace! I have staked my life on this marvelous gift from God and Jesus. I can tell you for a fact that it will not be justice that I will be demanding on the Day of Judgment; rather, it will be grace that I will be pleading for. Since I am told that this grace is multiplied in my knowledge of the Father and the Son, it makes me want to be all the more earnest in my seeking out that knowledge.

How about you? Do you want peace and grace multiplied in your own life? You can have them... if only you will seek them in God's word!

This is why we study!
