James 2-4

"You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder."  James 2:19, NIV

One of the most sobering passages in Scripture is the one you just read above. So many people think that just because they believe in God that they will be saved, but this idea is clearly false because even the demons believe and they are bound for Hell - that is why they shudder at the knowledge that there is but one God, and that Jesus is His Son.

Now, we really don't know exactly what demons are or where they came from. It certainly appears that God never created anybody without a chance - even Satan appears to be a fallen angel and therefore must have been in a saved condition at one time. But whether demons are the lost souls of evil men who had died apart from God, or angels who fell from their secure positions, or even some other created being whose origin God has not chosen to reveal in His word, I believe we can be confident of this: They had a chance... but they blew it!

And now the demons, we are told, certainly believe in one God, but it is too late! They did not act upon that knowledge while there was still time to act upon it, so they either fell or died apart from God and now they are merely waiting for the final Judgment and the final punishment. Would you want to be in their position - a state where you knew there was no longer a chance?

No?

Then do something about it! Study the Word of God and then do what He says! You will be so glad that you did.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22, NIV
