Revelation 12-22

"Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from His presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were open. Another book was opened, which was the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books..."

Revelation 20:11-12, NIV

If you have taken up the challenge to read through the New Testament in thirty days, then today is your last day. If you have faithfully read each day, then you have accomplished a noble task.

Now, why did you do it?

If you just did it to accomplish a physical goal of reading another great piece of literature, then you have probably missed the point. It's not that the Bible is not great literature, because it is. No man can be considered truly educated without having read the Bible, both Old and New Testaments.

But we read the Bible for a different reason: It contains the words of life, and we want to live! It tells us where we came from and where we are going. It tells us that we can be saved by grace, through faith, but that we have much, much, much more than that to do for God if we are going to have to be with Him forever. Some will challenge that notion - maybe even you would have in the past - but not any more. You have read the Book! But, why is it so important to know what the Bible says?

Because He is keeping books! He knows your heart and He knows your deeds. He has something called the book of life in which the names of the saved are kept. Moses spoke about it, Paul spoke about it, and John spoke about it.

It is real!

Is your name there?

I told you when we began this thirty day challenge that I would have something even better for you when you finished - and here it is: The next phase of this challenge is to study through the New Testament, taking about a half of an hour a day (the same time as a mindless television sitcom) for 90 days. I'll introduce that challenge tomorrow.

But for today, you have succeeded in one of the most noble goals that man can accomplish: You have read the entire New Testament in just thirty days! Some will shrug (usually those too lazy to find out for themselves what God's word says) and they will say, "Big deal!" But it is a big deal - a very big deal - because God is keeping books. What will he record in those books... about you?

"...each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea... And I heard a loud voice coming from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death... He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be My son."

Revelation 20:13-21:1, 3, 7, NIV

Today is day thirty - it actually got here! Today's readings are from the 12th through the 22nd chapters of Revelation.  I hope that you have enjoyed the challenge - it is a worthy task. I encourage you to come back tomorrow for an even greater challenge - one that has the power to change your life and your eternity!
